U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry meets with foreign ministers of Germany, France, China, Britain, Russia and the European Union during the Iran talks meetings at a hotel in Vienna, Austria, July 7, 2015.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry meets with foreign ministers of Germany, France, China, Britain, Russia and the European Union during the Iran talks meetings at a hotel in Vienna, Austria, July 7, 2015.

World leaders announced Tuesday they would not meet the July 7 deadline for an Iran nuclear agreement.

The six world leaders said a deal with Iran made in April will remain in place until July 10, giving officials more time to reach a final agreement.

If such a deal is reached by Thursday, the U.S. Congress would have 30 days to review it and vote on whether to lift U.S. sanctions imposed on Iran. After Thursday, the review period becomes 60 days.

The White House said President Obama will meet with Senate Democrats Tuesday night to discuss the Iran nuclear talks.

Greece offers "improvements" to financial plan

Greece has announced it has made "improvements" in its financial plan in hopes of collecting more bailout money.

A Greek official said the plan calls for reforms, investment and debt settlement. Europe's top finance chief said he expected Greece to formally ask for a new bailout as early as Wednesday.

However, several European leaders expressed anger that Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras did not present a written plan Tuesday to solve his country's financial crisis.

South Carolina Senate votes to remove Confederate flag

South Carolina's state Senate passed a bill to remove the Civil War-era Confederate flag from its state Capitol, where it has flown for more than 50 years.

The proposal was approved by a 36-3 vote Tuesday in the Republican-controlled Senate. The bill now goes to the South Carolina House of Representatives, where debate will likely begin Wednesday.

Many state officials, including South Carolina's governor, have called for the flag's removal after the June 17 killings of nine African-Americans at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston.
